Playbook is building the Operating Memory for regulated industries.

In life sciences and other highly regulated sectors, companies run on thousands of written procedures SOPs, work instructions, policies, manuals, and how-to guides. Employees are expected to find, understand, follow, and stay trained on the right procedure at the right moment. That system is breaking under the weight of information overload.

Playbook turns procedural documents into structured, usable data, making critical operational knowledge consumable by humans, software systems, and AI agents. This living layer of procedural knowledge is what we call Operating Memory.

We work with leading global life sciences companies and are building the foundational data model for procedural knowledge in regulated industries. We're an early-stage, founder-led company with high ambition, high standards, and a strong bias toward execution.

About the Role

We are looking for a Platform / DevOps Engineer to join our team and share ownership of our AWS infrastructure which runs Playbook's live, client-facing platform. Infrastructure-as-code is core to how we operate. Every environment we run is defined, versioned, and reproducible in code, and we're looking for someone who will champion and extend that discipline as we scale. The successful candidate will play a central part in ensuring platform reliability and driving infrastructure maturity forward.

You will co-own the full AWS infrastructure for a platform that is serving clients in highly regulated industries. Day-to-day, this means keeping the platform healthy and highly available, responding to infrastructure and service delivery issues, and continuously improving the systems and processes that make Playbook work. We expect a natural curiosity and desire to explore new approaches to improve our platform. As our company is growing, you will be able to shape how the team and platform evolve to help make a difference to our customers.

What you’ll own

• Manage and continuously improve the company's AWS infrastructure, following infrastructure-as-code and GitOps principles as standard practice (Terraform and FluxCD)

• Build observability into our core workflows to ensure we and the entire engineering team have insights available when needed

• Own and maintain our GitHub Actions workflows and deployment pipelines, and support development teams where their pipelines touch infrastructure or deployment

• Identify and address gaps in infrastructure resilience, observability, and operational process

• Contribute to scaling the platform as the business grows

What you'll bring

• Proven track record working in a professional DevOps or infrastructure engineering environment

• Hands-on experience with AWS, this is a core requirement

• Practical experience managing infrastructure as code

• Experience managing Kubernetes clusters with GitOps tools in production

• Experience with OpenTelemetry or observability platforms (e.g., CloudWatch, Dash0)

• Experience managing DNS infrastructure

• Solid understanding of backup and recovery strategies and practices

• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent)

Nice to Have

• Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven industry or organization

• AWS certification(s) as a demonstrable signal of depth of knowledge

• Working knowledge of administrating RDS and PostgreSQL databases 

• Experience implementing or maintaining elastic scaling solutions
